OYHOYL at a glance
In Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life you will ...
-
Get clear on your purpose for decluttering so you can make confident decisions about what to keep and what to let go ... and save time.
-
Create quick, visible order to the living spaces throughout your home. Then introduce spontaneous decluttering and tidying habits into your day while planning the times when you'll sort through drawers, closets, and cabinets.
-
Learn how to organize your home to support your activities, find what you need when you need it, and make putting things away easier so that the clutter doesn't return.
Karen P.
"I discovered that keeping things for someday was blocking my appreciation for the things of today and cluttering my house to the point of bursting."
When your home feels chaotic, your life feels that way too.
Is your home draining your time, energy, and ability to focus?
-
Have you decluttered only to watch the clutter return? And have you wondered if you might be a hopelessly disorganized person?

-
Are you forever running late because you can't find what you need to take with you (phone, keys, purse, and so on) and do you remember things you should have taken with you (a birthday card to mail, library books to return, clothing to bring to the dry cleaners) when you're far from home?

-
Do you avoid planning parties, dinners, book clubs, and any other type of get together because you dread the effort it would take to make your home look neat?

-
Do you pray that no one drops by without notice because they'll see the house as it currently is?

-
Have you wondered how much time you waste each week looking for misplaced items? And have you thought about the activities you could do with that time?

-
Do you start tidying one room only to find yourself decluttering an unrelated space because you got distracted by the trail of clutter?

-
When you're at home, do you struggle to unwind because everywhere you look you see things that need to get done?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES, it's time to acknowledge that you're letting your stuff control your life.
BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.
Hey there, I'm Susan!
And I know what it's like to always be organizing without ever feeling organized.Â
I folded my clothes. I grouped by books by genre. I created a detailed filing system. But I wasn't organized. I owned so much stuff and crammed it into every available space that it was impossible to retrieve something without a bunch of other stuff exploding out of my drawers.

It was such a hassle to put things away, that it was easier to tell myself I'd organize them later. But after emptying my parents' house, I saw that holding onto stuff for "someday" was draining my time, energy, and hope.

I decluttered and then stayed organized with a new set of effective habits. Maintaining order now takes minutes a day. I then decided to become a professional organizer to help others live a less cluttered life and reclaim their time and space for the people and activities most important to them.
Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life is the program that helps you understand what things support your life and which drain energy from it. You learn how to store items so you can find them when you need them ... and then put them away with ease. It's time to discover how to change from someone who's always decluttering their home to being an organized person.
Imagine having the time and energy for the people and activities that are important to you.
How good would it feel if your home supported your life?
-
You have time for family, friends, reading, crafting, and self-care because you aren't worrying about trying to manage the stuff in your home.

-
When you open your closet door, you find clothing that fits your body and your lifestyle. You no longer pull out a half-dozen items to create an outfit (and you no longer have to think about putting away those unworn items).

-
You have the space in your kitchen to prepare meals. You never worry about walking into a messy kitchen in the morning because you have routines that leave this room ready for the next meal.

-
You save money because you no longer buy duplicates of misplaced products and items. You've also eliminated impulse shopping because you know that you have things like toothpaste and laundry detergent (and where it's stored!).

-
No longer are weekends about decluttering (or telling yourself you should be decluttering). You do a bit of organizing each day, so you feel ready and in control.

Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life is more than a decluttering program. It shows you how to develop the life skills that help you to stay organized.

Will you tell me what to get rid of?

No. Nor will I dictate in what order you need to declutter your rooms or categories of belongings. While guidance is offered to get you started, if you don't know where to focus your attention after that, there's a lesson that will help you prioritize your efforts.

The work you do in Phase 1 to clarify your purpose for decluttering will help you see what you will keep and what you can get rid of. No one has the right to tell you what to get rid of.

What will I learn in Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life?

In the four phases of OYHOYL, you'll clarify your purpose for decluttering, so you better understand what to keep while working on your resistance to letting go of things that no longer serve your home and your life.

Then you'll make the time to declutter, so it gets done instead of dreamed about. Along the way, you'll clear clutter from surfaces, enjoying an early win.

You'll spend most of the time decluttering storage spaces like closets, cabinets, and drawers as you learn how to organize things so you can find them when you need them.

And from Phase 1 on, you'll start learning habits for staying organized (yes, before you finish decluttering your entire home).

Who created this program?

This program was created by Susan McCarthy, a professional organizer and the founder of A Less Cluttered Life.

After emptying her parents' overcrowded house, she took a good look at her possessions and began decluttering. She then left her job teaching kids about nature and arts and turned her attention to helping others get and stay organized.

Why will this program help me to stay organized?

You won't start by grabbing a trash bag and trying to decide whether or not you will need something. First, you'll clarify your reasons for getting organized, so you know what to keep and what to clear. Then, you'll take an honest look at your schedule and determine when you can declutter.

While working on those phases, you'll start clearing surface clutter while practicing habitual actions that not only help you get organized but stay organized as well.

Decluttering is great for creating a less cluttered environment, but it won't keep you organized. That's why developing habits as you organize is so important.

When does the program start?

January 2025 is the inaugural month for Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life. However, you can start after signing up. You'll receive a confirmation email to walk you through everything you've joined.
How do I know if Organize Your Home, Organize Your Life will help me bring order to my home?

If you've decluttered in the past only to watch the clutter return, you know that decluttering is only part of the solution. Understanding your desired outcome for your home helps you declutter more effectively while organizing your home the best way for you creates an environment that encourages you to stay organized.

You're ready to look beyond decluttering as your only tool for getting organized and developing the habits that will make you an organized person.

Self-Directed is a great option for you if you're seeking information and can implement on your own. Boosted is perfected is you want more guidance and a sense of community. Guided offers 1:1 support for as long as you need it.

What if I can't attend live events?

The Q&A sessions are recorded so you can listen to them at your convenience. If you have a question and can't attend to ask, you can submit it beforehand so Susan can answer it during the Q&A session.

The virtual coworking decluttering sessions are a time for you to declutter on your own while you know others are working on their projects. While there is a brief introduction and wrap-up, these aren't guided classes. For privacy, these aren't recorded.

How quickly will I be able to declutter and get organized?

The investment of your time and effort with this program comes down to a few factors. One, how much stuff you have. If organizing in the past has involved rearranging and storing things because you thought you might need them someday, then you likely have more stuff to sort through than you think.

Two, the amount of time you can give to decluttering also affects the number of weeks or months you'll need to organize your home. Working consistently, even a few minutes a day, will result in more progress than sporadic effort.

Next, how confident do you feel making decisions about your possessions? Phase 1 works on clarity to help speed this process because making decisions is a challenge.

Finally, look to your shopping habits. If you're getting rid of some things so you can buy new things to redecorate or to upgrade possessions, you aren't decluttering but rearranging. This isn't saying that you can't buy new things, if you do so mindfully.

How much does this program cost?

OYHOYL is a monthly membership. Self-Directed membership is at $29 a month while Boosted costs $49 a month. Guided offers limited spaces at $149 a month.
You can stay with the program for as long as you want, through part or all of your organizing journey.
