Meet Susan

I started A Less Cluttered Life a few years after realizing that I'd spent decades organizing clutter and that I wanted to help others stop doing the same.

You see, I'd emptied my parents' house ... 39 years of so much stuff that we had to walk sideways to move around the rooms.

After handling all those things and asking questions like, "Why?" and "What were they thinking?" about 100 quadrillion times, I took a look at my own stuff. Oops.

While I was forever organizing my things, I was never organized. I had so much stuff that any time I touched something, things shifted and then it was too difficult to put them away. Stuff began piling up shortly after I organized an area.

I began decluttering, not really certain how to go through everything. Oftentimes, something that seemed important to hold onto, revealed itself as unnecessary weeks or months later. (There were no dramatic before-and-after photos.)

While decluttering wasn't easy, I felt such relief for having decluttered, that I kept at it. I decided to leave teaching and shift to organizing. I joined the National Association for Productivity and Organizing Professionals.

All this has encouraged me to help others not only clear the clutter but also build the habits that maintain order. Why bother organizing your home? To create a space that supports your life and lifestyle.

Some other things about me: I live along the Charles River in Massachusetts (northeastern U.S.) with my husband and a calico cat named Biscuits (yes, that's her sleeping in a file box). I crochet, craft handmade carts, and read young adult novels and personal development books. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 57. I volunteer for my town's Friends of the Library and Garden Club.
